Race The Tram 2026
Blink and You’ll Miss it!
If you’ve ever tried to organise a group of runners to do anything at the exact same time, you’ll know it’s a bit like herding caffeinated squirrels. Now add a tram, three start points, and a ticking clock… and you’ve got Race The Tram.
When we launched the event back in 2025, Team Alexis Rose asked if we could use it to raise money and awareness for meningitis charities. Not exactly the sort of request you turn down. Last year we supported Meningitis Now, and this year we were proud to donate to Spencer Dayman Meningitis Research.
And once again, S1 Developments stepped up in style. Not only did the runners raise £255, but Dan, Luke and the S1 team topped it up (and then some) with a £300 donation. Proper backing, that. Huge thanks to all involved.
Cherry Blossom Chaos (Featuring One Very Talented Videographer)
Trying to brief a videographer for this event is… ambitious. “Right, Tom, we’d like you to capture the moment 100 plus runners explode out of tram doors and scatter in all directions like cherry blossom in a gale.” Somehow, against all odds, Tom nailed it. We’ve no idea how he managed to be everywhere at once, but the footage says it all. Bravo. Watch the video on our Facebook page.
The Run Itself: Fast Feet and Fine Margins
The Run Itself: Fast Feet and Fine Margins
Sunday morning delivered exactly what Race The Tram promises: a cracking mix of camaraderie, light chaos, and serious effort, all rounded off with some well earned refuelling at Patina. What a bakery.
This year’s stats were, frankly, a bit too impressive. Out of 118 runners, 112 made it back to Edinburgh Park Central before the tram rolled in. That’s a 95 percent success rate… which leaves us with a problem. We might need to make things a touch harder next year. Or maybe just ask you all to hop off one stop later and see what happens.
Special mentions to the six runners who narrowly missed out, three from Foot of the Walk and three from Newhaven. Consider this your official invitation to come back and settle the score in 2027.
Standout Moments
There were plenty of them.
A particular highlight was seeing one runner, aged 72 years young, not just take part but beat the tram. That’s the kind of energy we’re here for.
We were also delighted to have Runner’s World journalist Patrick Kinsella join the action. He took on the challenge and, importantly, beat it. Keep an eye out for his write up later this year, we’ll be sharing it when it lands.
Results Round Up
A huge congratulations to our winners across the three start points:
St Andrew Square:
First Male: Scott Ainslie
First Female: Shirley Scott
Foot of the Walk:
First Male: Jim Jagger
First Female: Megan Smith
Newhaven:
First Male: Nicolas Wolverston
Joint First Female: Fiona Boath and Alison Doolan
And a special nod to Alex Quayle, our final runner to beat the tram back to Edinburgh Park Central, all the way from Newhaven Terminus. Cutting it fine, but that’s half the fun.
Same Time Next Year?
Race The Tram continues to be one of those events that shouldn’t really work on paper but absolutely comes alive on the day. Fast, frantic, and full of good people doing good things.
We’ll be back. Maybe faster, maybe tougher… definitely just as fun.
