Water of Leith Half 2025

Looking for a scenic half marathon in Scotland? Join us for the Water of Leith Half, one of Edinburgh’s most iconic and enjoyable running events. Now in its 26th year, this point-to-point half marathon follows the winding path of the Water of Leith, taking runners from the edge of the Pentlands right down to Leith.

This unique Water of Leith race is kept deliberately small – we expect no more than 200 runners – to minimise impact on the pathways and preserve the natural beauty of the route. It's a handicapped race with a maximum time limit of 2h30; the slowest runners will start at 9.30am.

The Route

  • Start: Just outside Balerno, on a farm track off Harlow Road

  • Finish: Coalhill, Leith

  • The route is mostly off-road, well-marked, and marshalled at key road crossings. Please note that roads are not closed to traffic, so runners must remain alert at all times.

Supporting Local Conservation

As in recent years, all fundraising from this Edinburgh half marathon will go towards the Water of Leith Conservation Trust, helping to protect the river’s heritage, wildlife, and natural environment.

  • Coach transport from the finish area to the start line is available for £6 – book when you sign up.
