Competitors running the Shrove Tuesday February Blast 5K at the Meadows

Fast Times and Flipping Good Fun on Shrove Tuesday

The Blast 5K at The Meadows on Shrove Tuesday, 17 February 2026, brought blue skies, bright sunshine and a whole lot of lunchtime energy.

A brilliant 96 runners lined up at the start, with 95 crossing the finish. Half term meant we welcomed a strong Under 18 turnout too, which is always a joy to see. Young legs, fast times and plenty of smiles. That is what we like.

And yes, there were pancakes. Runners tucked in afterwards and we suspect a few went home for round two. It would have been rude not to.

A huge thank you to our wonderful marshals Issy, Richard, Kathryn, Kuan, Charlie and Brian who kept everything running smoothly. We are also very grateful to Fife Medical Group Ltd for providing first aid cover.

Your generosity made a real difference. Donations on the day went to Youth Vision Scotland, a charity supporting young people in South West Edinburgh who are struggling with formal education or are not in training or employment. They provide nature based informal education to build confidence and self esteem and help young people move towards positive futures. After a recent break in at their Pentlands building, where their polytunnel was set on fire, your support matters even more. Together we raised over £125 to help them rebuild. Thank you.

On the course, it was flying feet at the front. The overall male winner was Max Meres of Edinburgh AC in a superb 16:13. The overall female winner was Kate MacIntosh of Dundee Road Runners in 20:13. Outstanding running from both.

You can find the full breakdown of times and category winners on our Results page.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. Same time next month for our St Patrick’s Day 5K on Tuesday 17 March. Bring your green and your good humour.
