Lords, Ladies and Gallant Runners
When Knights Block the Course
In my six years as Race Director, I thought I’d seen it all. Snowstorms, rogue cows, even the occasional overly annoyed cyclist… but never this.
Yesterday, our noble Dalmeny trail half marathon was briefly besieged—not by weather, nor wild beasts—but by a band of medieval knights and peasants (please excuse any historical inaccuracies). These brave time-travellers, clearly lost on their quest to find the Holy Grail—or perhaps the porta-loos—took up a most strategic position… directly in front of one of our course arrows. 🏹
Alas! A group of runners were led temporarily astray in Cammo, courtesy of the well-armoured obstruction. Who would have thought to write “Beware: Knight May Blocketh Signage” in the pre-race info?
Still, what a beauty of an autumn morning it was. Golden leaves, cool air, and over 250 gallant runners charging through the trails of Dalmeny and Cammo – the perfect setting for a little (accidental) time travel.
Despite the unexpected medieval mischief, three course records fell!
🏆 Adam Gray stormed home in a spectacular 1:16:05, taking both the overall and V40 male course records.
🏆 Michael Fullerton smashed the V50 male record with 1:26:25.
🏆 Morna Fleming rewrote the V70 female record in 2:27:46.
A huge well done to everyone – we know it’s a tough wee course, even without knights blocking the signs.
One runner summed it up perfectly:
“Well done everyone involved, great event, well organised and the best marshals too!! Loved the route – however you could easily add in a few more hills… just saying!!! 🤣🤣🤣”

Well done everyone – it was an absolute BLAST, and we can’t wait to do it all again on Saturday, 31st October 2026 (preferably with fewer knights, though we’ll take the laughter any day)!
