Race the Tram Edinburgh: Your Route. Your Challenge.

Navigate the city. Outsmart the tram. Can you get back before it does?

Join us for this newish event in Edinburgh’s running scene!
Choose your starting point, board the tram, and race it back — your way.

📍 St Andrew Square – approx. 5.5 miles
⏱️ You have 71 minutes to beat the tram

📍 Newhaven Terminus – approx. 7.5 miles
⏱️ You have 50 minutes to beat the tram

Use your local knowledge and strategy to plot your own fastest, flattest, or most fun route back to Edinburgh Park Central.

What to Expect at Race the Tram

  • Open to all runners

  • Under 17s must be accompanied by a responsible adult

  • All successful participants receive a goodie bag and race memento, thanks to S1 Developments, creators of The New Village at Edinburgh Park

  • Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd finishers from both tram start locations

  • This event is not chip timed – your challenge is simple: Beat the tram back to base!

  • No road closures – please take care and cross roads safely. Your safety is your own responsibility.

Event Details

  • Where: All runners meet at Edinburgh Park Central tram station

  • When: Catch the 8:00 am tram to your chosen start point

  • Race starts as soon as your tram arrives!

  • Entry: £18 Standard / £20 Non-members (includes £2 insurance levy for non-Scottish Athletics members)

  • Registration: 7:00 – 7:40 am at New Park Square. Cash or card accepted

  • If entering on the day, please arrive by 7:15 am to secure your place
