(Last updated 16/04/2026)
Race the Tram is a head to head challenge where runners take on the tram and try to beat it back to the finish.

Registration
Takes place between 7 - 7.40am at Patina Bakery, Events Room, New Park Square, 2 Airborne Pl, Edinburgh Park, EH12 9GR, which is just beside Edinburgh Park Central tram station. You must be ready to catch the 8am tram to your chosen start line! Can't remember which station you chose? Check here!
If you have a friend who is planning to ENTER ON THE DAY please ask them to come along by 7.15am to secure their place.
For safety reasons, we will be asking you to wear a number on your outer layer of clothing with your emergency details on the reverse. As with all events, please do not swap this with other participants, if you are involved in a medical situation we can use your information to get you the help you need.
For safety and insurance reasons, ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER TO RUN, YOU MUST NOT START YOUR RUN AT ST ANDREWS SQUARE, FOOT OF THE WALK OR NEWHAVEN WITHOUT REGISTERING BEFOREHAND.
If you have paid for your tram ticket when signing up this will be given to you at registration, otherwise your ticket is your own responsibility to purchase before you get on the tram - can't remember? Check here!
Baggage
Unsecured baggage storage will be available at registration. The race organisers take no responsibility for any items stored before, during or after the race.
Race Briefing
There will be a race safety briefing given to all runners 5 minutes before the event to go over any safety issues and give the opportunity for runners to ask any questions.
Start time
As soon as your tram alights at your chosen starting point, St Andrews Square, Foot Of The Walk, or the Newhaven Terminus, you may exit the tram and start your run.
There will be marshals at the stations to warn other tram users of the nature of the event so hopefully the platforms will be fairly clear however please be careful when getting off the tram and crossing any roads. No roads are closed for this event and your personal safety is your own responsibilIty.
Race Route
Your choice!
Age restrictions
Due to the self navigation element to this event we ask that younger participants (17 and under on the 26th April) are accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
Wheeled Options - wheelchairs, running frames, buggies
We are very sorry but we cannot allow wheeled options due to all the road crossing involved.
Dogs
Unfortunately our insurance will not cover running with your four legged friends.
Catering
We have booked the event area of the Patina Bakery where there will be hot and cold drinks plus baked goodies for you to purchase. Blast Running is providing a £2 voucher for you to use against any food & drink on the day. We will provide complimentary water and tea at the finish line should this be all you need, but have you seen their almond croissants?! They're worth beating the tram for!
Race Results
This is not a chip timed event, your challenge is simply to beat the tram you were travelling on back to Edinburgh Park Central. We will list the runners and who beat the tram on our results page.
Prize Giving and Socks
There will be prizes for the 1st male and female runners to reach Edinburgh Park Central from all 3 stations (6 prizes in total).
If you do NOT beat the tram back to the the Blast Running arch before the tram comes to a halt at Edinburgh Park Central then you will not receive your limited edition Race the Tram socks! Too harsh? Let us know and we'll be kind!
As this is not a race as such, more of a running challenge lets say, there are no medals for this event. However for you medal lovers out there we will have coasters which could be modified into medals should you so wish available to purchase for only £5 at the event.
Car Parking
There is free parking for 4 hours at The Gyle or Hermison Gait - both less than a mile away.
Or, there is a multi-story with the 1st hour free parking and then £3 for 2-3 hours - accessed from Lochside Avenue.
