The Fife Pilgrim Way Ultra is back for 2027 - Step back in time and follow in the footsteps of pilgrims who, centuries ago, journeyed across Fife seeking meaning, purpose, and connection. Inspired by Queen Margaret’s historic crossing at Queensferry, this fully marked ultra takes you along the ancient pilgrim route to St Andrews Cathedral – once the final resting place of the Apostle’s remains.

This isn’t just another ultra.
It’s a journey of reflection, endurance, and discovery. Run through historic towns like Dunfermline, Lochore, Markinch and Ceres. Soak in breathtaking Fife landscapes and feel the stories of faith and determination echo with every step.

FAQs

• Who is eligible to take part?

  Age: 20+ on race day (1 May 2027)

  Experience: We ask that you have completed a distance of at least 42K (marathon) within the last 24 months, or an ultra of at least 50K in the last 36 months.

• Where and when does the event start?

  6am at North Queensferry

• Can I walk the Fife Pilgrim Way Ultra?

  No, sorry, this is a running event. That said, we are highly in support of walk breaks.

• Is there a relay team option?

  No, sorry, this is a solo event only. 

• Can I run with a support runner?

  You can ask a friend to run with you from Ceres to the end.

• Can I run with poles?

  Yes!

• Are there cut offs along the way?

  There is an overall 15 hour limit (6am to 9pm) which is an average of 16 minutes per mile or approximately two back to back 7 hour marathons! You must be ready to leave the checkpoint at Markinch (32 miles) by 2.30pm and leave the checkpoint at Ceres (45 miles) by 6pm

• Is there a shuttle bus from the finish?

  Yes, we will be running a bus service from St Andrews back to North Queensferry on a 2 hourly rota from 4pm to midnight.

• What are the course records?

  7 hours 48 mins 34 seconds by Scott Hendrie (2026)
  9 hours 6 minutes 49 seconds by Iszy Hinkley (2026)
