Racing Into 2026: Meadows 5K Series January

Runners getting ready to start the Meadows 5k series January

A Tartan Tinted Kick Off at The Meadows

The Blast Running calendar for 2026 is officially up and running and it began in fine style with the Rabbie Burns themed Meadows 5K series January event at The Meadows.

With 79 runners on the start line and one of them proudly aged 79, the morning perfectly captured what the Meadows 5K series is all about. Inclusive friendly and open to runners of all ages and stages. From seasoned club athletes to first timers enjoying the buzz of a measured 5K it was a brilliant way to launch this year’s series.

True to the theme there was plenty to enjoy beyond the finish line too. Shortbread whisky and haggis crisps proved very popular and added a welcome splash of fun to a crisp January morning. Events like this remind us that running is as much about community as it is about times and placings.

A huge thank you goes to our fantastic marshals Issy, Richard, Kuan, Charlie, Brian, Allan and Gordon. Their support and encouragement keeps everything running smoothly and makes these events possible.

We were also delighted to be raising funds for Social Bite at this event and thanks to the generosity of those taking part we raised £92. Every entry helps support an excellent cause and we are grateful to everyone who contributed.

There were some excellent performances across the field and podium places were claimed in multiple age categories. Rather than list every result here you can view the results page. Results will also be submitted to Run Britain Rankings (which is having an update, we believe) and Scottish Athletics.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Meadows 5K series January race. This was a joyful confident start to the year and the first chapter of another great Meadows 5K event. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Meadows on Tuesday, 17 February - entries are open now!
