Water of Leith Half 2022

The Water of Leith Half is now in its 22nd year and it has raised thousands of pounds in that time for various local charities.

This year's event will help to conserve this wonderful river and its pathways which we are lucky enough to run along. The Water of Leith Conservation Trust works to conserve and enhance the river, its heritage and wildlife: the Trust promotes education and recreation through the Visitor Centre and works with volunteers and community groups to deliver around 300 river clean-ups and habitat improvement tasks annually.

Join us on the start line of this iconic half marathon route. It is a point to point event, starting in the SW of Edinburgh beyond Balerno and winds you through the city along the Water of Leith pathways to Coalhill, Leith.

We do not foresee having more than 150 runners taking part as we wish to keep it small, manageable and to reduce impact on the pathways. It is a handicapped race with a max time of 2h30, slowest runners start at 10am.

The start area is just outside of Balerno, on a farm track off Harlow Road and the finish area is Coalhill, Leith. We will have marshals at all difficult road crossings and the runners are advised that no roads have been closed for the race so to keep their wits about them when crossing roads, of which there are only a few. The route will also be floured the day before at any junctions to keep the runners on the right path.

You will have the option to book a seat on the coach to take you from the finish area to the start line.
